In short

Pimcore is an Austrian open-core platform that combines PIM, MDM, DAM, data syndication and digital experience functions on one data framework. It serves organisations from SMB to enterprise that want a highly configurable, developer-oriented platform with self-hosted or PaaS deployment. Since 2025 the free Community Edition uses the Pimcore Open Core License (POCL) in place of GPLv3.

Overview

Pimcore is built on a PHP and Symfony framework in which data objects, assets and documents share one configurable model. Data management modules cover PIM, DAM, MDM and customer data, while experience management modules cover DXP, a Digital Commerce Framework, experience portals, data syndication and delivery, and PXM. Pimcore Studio became the default administration interface in version 12, replacing the earlier ExtJS interface. Pimcore reports use by more than 118,000 companies in 75 countries, a figure that includes Community Edition users, and a network of more than 170 solution partners.

Four editions are offered: Community Edition, Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition (on-premise or private cloud) and Enterprise Edition PaaS with multi-cloud and multi-region hosting. Version 2025.1 was the first release under POCL. The Community Edition remains free for companies with annual revenue below EUR 5 million; larger organisations require a commercial licence, and offering the core as SaaS requires an OEM licence. The change prompted a community fork named OpenDXP. Buyers evaluating total cost of ownership should check which edition and licence apply.

Pimcore was first released in 2010, and Pimcore GmbH was founded in Salzburg in 2013. Auctus Capital provided a USD 3.5 million Series A in 2018 and Nordwind Growth led a USD 12 million Series B in 2022. A digital product passport extension from Narravero is available in the Pimcore Store for commercial editions. Pimcore 12.3.9 was released in June 2026, and Pimcore Studio remains the standard administration interface.
