Akeneo is a French PIM vendor whose Akeneo Product Cloud combines PIM, supplier data onboarding, channel activation, asset handling and, since 2026, pricing through PricingHUB. It serves mid-market and enterprise brands, manufacturers, distributors and retailers. Its main strengths are a widely adopted PIM core, a large partner and app ecosystem, and an AI programme that Akeneo positions as agentic.
Overview
Akeneo Product Cloud is a composable SaaS platform for centralising, enriching and distributing product information. The PIM module manages attributes, families, categories, translations and completeness rules. Supplier Data Manager (SDM) handles onboarding of supplier files, Activation syndicates content to retailers and marketplaces, and further modules cover assets, a Digital Showroom and PX Insights. Akeneo reports more than 400 employees, more than 900 enterprise customers and more than 200 partners. The open-source Community Edition, licensed under OSL 3.0, remains available and has a large installed base among developers and smaller organisations.
AI is a central part of the current roadmap. Akeneo acquired Unifai in 2023 to add AI-based data collection, cleansing, categorisation and enrichment, and introduced Agentic Ziggy in its Summer 2026 release as an interface layer that coordinates specialised AI agents across the product data lifecycle. Akeneo describes its data model as adaptive. In June 2026 it acquired PricingHUB, which operates as a dedicated business unit and links product data with pricing. Buyers should confirm which of these capabilities sit in their chosen Product Cloud package.
Akeneo was founded in Nantes in 2013, and the first public beta of Akeneo PIM appeared that year. Growth was funded through several rounds, including a USD 46 million Series C in 2019 and a USD 135 million Series D in 2022, both led by Summit Partners. The company has offices in France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, the US and Australia, and its CEO is Romain Fouache.
Capability evidence

Strengths
- Mature PIM core with a flexible attribute and family model and completeness scoring.
- Product Cloud modules for supplier onboarding (SDM) and channel activation from one vendor.
- Large partner network and app store, plus an open-source edition with a broad developer base.
- Active AI investment, including the Unifai acquisition (2023) and agentic features released in 2026.
Points to evaluate
- Capabilities differ by Product Cloud package, so scope and module licensing need confirming early.
- Native asset management is product-centric; organisations with large media libraries often add a dedicated DAM.
- GDSN publication and DPP generation rely on partners and connectors from the app store.
- Implementation is typically delivered by certified partners, so partner selection affects outcomes.
